The Center’s Adult Day Training Program provides meaningful day activities for individuals who are developmentally disabled. This program offers the opportunities to enrich lives through a range of educational opportunities, exposure to a variety of ideas, and a range of opportunities for practical experiences. Some of the activities include daily living skills, cooking, reading, math skills, money management, exercise, computer skills, arts & crafts and self-care. These are all important areas for people who are working their way toward personal and employment independence. Adult Day Training stresses training in the areas of self-help, adaptive and social skills, and are age and culturally appropriate.
Every year, staff members work with each individual, their support coordinator who arranges services, and their family to develop goals and outcomes, written in an individualized support plan. Skills are developed and enhanced in accordance with the individual’s support plan, which enables individuals to voice their choices in what they want to accomplish or learn or do. Each person is encouraged to take the lessons learned in the classroom and apply them to real life situations within the community. For example, individuals may choose a recipe in cooking class, go into the community to purchase the supplies using money skills to pay for the items and then return and cook the food.
